Two kites, one goal: Big Air. We put the new F-ONE Trigger TEC and the Trigger Brainchild through their paces in El Gouna. Both models deliver impressive performance – but they appeal to different types of riders.
The DNA of the Trigger series
Designed by Ralf Grösel, both kites share a high aspect ratio and a stable 5-strut frame. The result: enormous stability, strong upwind performance, and excellent big-air potential.
The Trigger Brainchild – pure high performance
The Brainchild is the top model in terms of performance. It offers extremely direct steering, precise handling, and unparalleled hang time. Kiteloops are aggressive and powerful, the lift is crisp and features impressive second lift. It also boasts a wide upper wind range – perfect for experienced riders who want to push their technique to the limit.
The Trigger TEC – The accessible big-air kite
The new Trigger TEC translates the DNA of the Brainchild into a significantly more accessible concept. With medium bar pressure, high stability at the edge of the wind window, and zero tendency to backstall, it also impresses lighter riders. Jumps are almost automatic – pull in the bar, take off, and enjoy. Hang time and second lift are fantastic, and loops remain controllable and safe. This makes the TEC the perfect kite for twin-tip riders who want to experience big air without any hassle.
Our impressions of El Gouna
We were amazed at how easy the TEC is to fly. Even female pilots who normally swear by the Bandit got on perfectly right away. The Brainchild, on the other hand, once again demonstrated why it's the high-performance model: crisper, more direct, with more reserves in the upper wind range – but also more demanding to fly.
Voices from the beach
Thomas Beckmann, CEO of KBC-World, summed it up perfectly after our session:
“I have rarely experienced a kite that glides so flawlessly and stably through the wind window – a true milestone for F-ONE.”
Should you switch from the Bandit?
If you exclusively ride twin-tip boards, the answer is a resounding yes! The Trigger TEC makes getting into big air easier than ever before. However, if you also ride waves or aren't focused on high jumps, the Bandit remains the best choice.
Conclusion
The Trigger Brainchild is the choice for ambitious big-air riders seeking maximum performance, loops, and unlimited hang time. The Trigger TEC is the smart alternative: easier to fly, more affordable (approximately €500 price advantage), and ideal for anyone who wants effortless takeoffs.
